Want your 15-minutes of fame? In a celebrity-crazed society, creator Dick Liersch has found a way to make everyone a celebrity, at least a celebrity to someone. Liersch created a how-to CD-ROM called “My Living Legacy,” which is software to help preserve a family’s history. Liersch has formed a bible, as you will, of questions and how-to to create a video of a family member and their story. “The main idea is to encourage people to video tape their life story,” Liersch said. “You can have the choice of getting it professionally done, or this software shows how to do it themselves with their own camera.” Liersch has been working on his dream for the about 25 years, but he recently teamed up with Sean Tepper, Creative Director of Choice Productions, which is an advertising agency specializing in websites, video productions, and graphic design. Liersch was inspired by Ralph Edwards and “This is Your Life” TV show. “I am the element for editing, doing special effects on it and presenting it as a final package,” Tepper said about how he is involved in My Living Legacy. Liersch said he started filming people as a hobby. Once he found the technology for a portable video camera, he had to go to New York to purchase it. Then, he turned it into a business where he would videotape people and their life history and now finally he created the CD-ROM, so anyone could tape their life history. Liersch got his CD-ROM copyrighted in 2005. “We want to aid people to capture those memories, literally as long as they want,” Liersch said. “In three generations, you, me with probably will be forgotten. All we will be is mark or stone in the field. With this no one is forgotten.” This software, Liersch said, appeals to anyone who loves history, anyone who cares about a family member and wants to preserve their story, funeral homes, military, hobbyist and kids doing family tree projects. “There are about 150 questions and you could be there all day asking all of them,” Tepper said. “These questions in the CD-ROM is just for thought provoking.” Some of the questions are pretty basic, like how did your family come to this country? What was your childhood life like? or How did you meet your spouse? Then there are some more thought provoking questions, like Do you have an opinion about the meaning of life? or If you had three wishes what would they be? Tepper said they are close in getting ready a demo DVD of a My Living Legacy to be done in the next three weeks. The software is available for purchase online at mylivinglegacy.net for $16.95 plus shipping. Tepper estimated the professional production would cost about $500, which includes the use of the TV camera, the two-hour interview and the DVD with a graphic label. He said this price in the industry standard. “Everybody should have their moment to tell their story,” Liersch said.
